Valentine’s Day was historically a religious festival to mark the feast of St. Valentine, one of the saints from Catholic Church who was martyred. The day is celebrated across the globe irrespective of region and religion. It has turned into an occasion where people express their love for someone close to them – lovers, friends, and family members – and different countries have their unique ways of celebrating it.Valentine’s Day is celebrated with mixed emotions in India as some right-wing hindu groups view the holiday as a cultural invasion on the Hindu way of life. February 14 also falls on the the death anniversary of three of India’s most revered freedom icons Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev, and Rajguru, who were executed in 1931.
